Deacon Vargas was born in the Dominican Republic and graduated Medical School at the University of Santo Domingo. He migrated to the United States to pursue further studies in the field of Medicine at Yale University's affiliated hospitals for Pathology. He also attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha for Internal Medicine training and the University of Illinois in Chicago for Gastroenterology training.
After finishing his postgraduate education he moved to Lakeland where he practices Gastroenterology. His wife Ella and son Daniel have been parishioners of Resurrection Catholic Church for many years where he and Ella have been serving as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Lectors, Baptism class instructors, and leaders of bible studies.
Deacon Vargas was ordained a Permanent Deacon in Peru and requested faculties to exercise his ministry here in Lakeland. Bishop Noonan, in consultation with Fr. Tim LaBo decided to assign him to Saint Joseph. Deacon Vargas is very excited to be able to serve the community of St. Joseph as a Deacon.
